Our preacher is preaching through the Psalms. He knows that I rely heavily on the 16th chapter for strength and comfort during my current treatment for breast cancer so when he reached that chapter, he asked if I would be willing for him to interview me in front of the congregation. My first reaction was no. That would be too stressful but I remembered a message I had received from a wise and trusted friend just the week before. She had reminded me that people were watching me to see how one handles these hard and dark periods of life. I realized that I had an opportunity for influence during this time that I might not have again. But I kept thinking I’d like to wait till this is all behind me… Then I could articulate lessons learned so much better. But on the other hand, I believe there is power in living my life transparently before I have it nicely outlined with poignant examples for each point. So I agreed and prayed that God would help me to be open and share how he has comforted and guided me through the twists and turns of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
To God be the glory.
Thank you, Devin, for the opportunity.
Here is the link to a video of my conversation with Devin at Highway on Sunday. It’s 10 minutes.
I hope you have a great day!

Thank you for sharing this. When you say the word was just there, just the right scripture, when you needed it…I get it and I’m thankful you didn’t pass on this one. You’ve encouraged all of us in our daily walks just by saying yes to the interview. I struggle with memorization now and do better with paraphrasing but this challenges me to try it again. Maybe I’m not as bad at memorizing as I have thought. I love you and I’m praying for you. I will say to I believe and thank you. 🙂

Memorizing is hard. I have a little procedure that works for me that I found on a blog. She said that we memorize not to get all the words right but we memorize to the point that we can’t get it wrong. That helped me stick with one chapter till it was deeply ingrained. Memorizing by 10s changed everything for me. I say my targeted verse or verses 10 times out loud (usually when I’m walking or driving) then I say my previously memorized verses + the new verses 10 times out loud. Then I have it! I also visualize it like a story broad or a video in my mind to help with transitions. AND I memorize short chapters from the Psalms that I love… I hope this helps! Love you and really appreciate your love and encouragement.

I’m trying this today. I want to memorize Job 38-42. What do you think? Is that even possible??🙂

Wow! Of course it’s possible. I am able to memorize 1-2 verses a day usually. Let me know how it goes! I love it.
