Dad and I have always been the early birds in our family. Early morning walks were made for the two of us. He’s been patient with me this week as I learn about my new camera. I stop every few steps to take pictures along the way. He finally suggested that we get a little cardio in this morning. It doesn’t take much to get me gasping for breath in this thin mountain air.
Here are some of my favorite photos so far.
I love how these three young aspens are standing so tall together.
This is one of the first views of the John Denver Sanctuary. I can just imagine how much my children would have loved this place when they were growing up. This place invites you to play.
There are no “Keep off the grass’ or ‘Do not touch’ signs.
This is my favorite sign.
Follow the path and it leads you to a quiet pool where children (or dogs) can splash around in the cool water.
This is what you see as you come out of the Child’s Play area.
We found a bison entitled, “Chrome on the Range.” Ha! Go Bisons!
This is the Roaring Fork River.
Earth laughs in flowers. Ralph Waldo Emerson
A duck surprised us floating in the river.
There are a lot of magpies around but this is the closest I got to one. I never knew they were so beautiful.
He is headed somewhere fast.
Helen Keller’s beautiful words are inscribed on this rock.
This was right beside the basketball court.
This reminds me of my little boys many years ago. They loved their bikes!
Dad is reading the words of one of John Denver’s songs. They are scattered throughout this area.
Rocky Mountain High is inscribed on this boulder.
I tried to figure out the timer on my camera. Dad stood in this spot for 4-5 tries. I would set the camera down, push the button, and run over to him so we could pose together. I obviously never got it. But this is a good shot of Dad.
We have been getting a lot of steps this week. I’m always glad to get back to the hotel to catch my breath before we go out again.
I hope you have a great day!
Amy
