Imagine fresh fruits and vegetables grown without chemical pesticides picked especially for you each week from your own community. That is what is happening in central Arkansas. I was intrigued by Foodshed Farms when I saw it on my Twitter feed last week. I clicked on the link.  The more I learned about it, the more I liked it. 

This is their mission according to their website. 

Our mission is to provide consistent, dependable, and valuable markets for smallscale Arkansas farmers while improving access to fresh, local foods in Arkansas communities. We offer a multi-farm community-supported agriculture (CSA) subscription in the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. In addition to the CSA program, we provide our farmers technical assistance in sustainable agriculture and business practices.

I signed up for their spring/summer subscription delivery service.  I picked up my first box of fruits and vegetables on Friday.

We had to use google images to identify some of the foods. 

Foodshed sent us a link to because she takes what is in your box and posts several recipes using those items. 

The email that I received on Thursday before my box came gave me some tips on what to do when it arrives. 

  • Store everything properly. (They give detailed instructions on how to do it. For example, rinse the lettuce and dry it then put in plastic baggie or air tight container between paper towels.)

  • Have a salad the night you get your box because there is a lot of lettuce. So I did!

  • Check out the blog for meal ideas. 

We had everything we needed for an Asian Noodle Bowl (with a few substitutions like quinoa for noodles).  Meredith and I got busy chopping. 

It was a hit. We nearly ate it all. 

Scott came home and got in on the cooking. He cooked some mushrooms and garlic before he had to head back into town.

All the farms grow their food without the use of chemical pesticides. 

We shared some of the stalks with Oopsie. 

Little guy was not so sure. 

This has all of us excited about cooking and eating farm fresh vegetables grown right here in Arkansas. 

Let me know if you have any recipes for radishes. I’m not sure what to do with those. I may try roasting them.
