David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell is a book that I recommend to anyone who is looking for a something good to read. The subtitle, Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants, is perfect.

“There is a set of advantages that have to do with material resources, and there is a set that have to do with the absence of material resources- and the reason underdogs win as often as they do is that the latter is sometimes every bit the equal of the former.”

It made me rethink the road to success and what it takes to accomplish one’s goals.

This is my favorite Gladwell book and I think I’ve read them all. His TED talk is inspiring but the book is even better.

It is $11.99 on Kindle today.

I listened to an old classic recently, The Old Maid, By Elizabeth Wharton.  This was written in 1922 as a series in the magazine, The Red Book.  I enjoyed the story about class and society. It was a very short audiobook, less than 3 hours. I generally listen at 1.25 speed so it may be longer at a normal rate.  I would recommend it.

I just finished reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.  I really liked this book. It is heartbreaking but the characters are so real and endearing.

“Hey Clark’, he said.’Tell me something good’. I stared out of the window at the bright-blue Swiss sky and I told him a story of two people. Two people who shouldn’t have met, and who didn’t like each other much when they did, but who found they were the only two people in the world who could possibly have understood each other. And I told him of the adventures they had, the places they had gone, and the things I had seen that I had never expected to. I conjured for him electric skies and iridescent seas and evenings full of laughter and silly jokes. I drew a world for him, a world far from a Swiss industrial estate, a world in which he was still somehow the person he had wanted to be. I drew the world he had created for me, full of wonder and possibility.”

I recommend it with some reservations. The language is rough in spots and I would change the ending. I have heard that a movie is coming out and I’m curious to see how the book is interpreted on film.  Click here for a fan-made book trailer.

This is one of those books that I would like to talk about with someone.  What do you think about this book?

This is on sale on Kindle for $2.99 today.
