When I turned 40, I was so sad. I thought about how time was passing. I was running out of time. I had spent a lot of time. Time was fleeting. I didn’t have much time left.
But as I move closer to turning 50, I see time differently. Thank you, Beth Moore. Thank you, Paul. Thank you, God. The Biblical view of time is one of time coming – not of time going. In the gospels, the writers talk about Mary and how her time came … to give birth. Jesus was unharmed by the people because his time had not yet come. In another passage, the Bible says ‘in the fullness of time.’ Romans 9:9, “At the appointed time I will return.” Rev 1:3 “Blessed is the one who reads the words of prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it, and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”
I am moving towards a time. Time is coming. All time is moving towards the time when the Lord Jesus will be revealed. The time is coming when God will deal once and for all with the lawless one … whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. (2 Thess. 2:8) What an incredible time is coming. A time is coming when we will be with the Lord Jesus forever. (1 Thess 4:17)
I have no need of a bucket list. I am not running out of time, I am running towards a time.
Time is coming.
