We sang some beautiful songs at church Wednesday night. Old hymns that trigger precious childhood memories.
- Blessed Assurance
- Have a Little Talk with Jesus
- How Shall the Young Secure Their Hearts
- Mansion Over the Hilltop
I can hear in my mind the strong alto leads from small country churches where my dad would preach as I was growing up. Sweet memories of sweet people who loved the Lord. I remember potluck Sunday dinners, outhouses, paper fans, wasps and good people.
I’m thankful for my memories of country people who gathered together every Lord’s Day to remember our Saviour.
What are some of your childhood memories of church?
I loved singing the “old” songs that have such a wonderful meaning to them. I grew up in a small old white church building that is over a 125yrs old and is still going strong in the same building. I remember the way the ladies would sound and the basses would make you trimble. We always had wasp when the wheather got warm and when the weather got cool we would always have the nose burning smell of the skunk who was tring to stay warm under the floor. Oh lets not forget the wonderful food that would cover the tables for dinner on the grounds. I have to say I am so glad I experinced to small little country church family.

I love it, Roxie! The Skunk that went to church! How funny. Precious people, huh? Where was your church? I’m glad yours is still going strong. So many have shut their doors because people move off or go to big churches. Do you get to go back very often?

We visit every month. Mike will preach there on easter. It is called Blue Bayou, And it is located in Nashvill, AR (SW Arkansas). Bro. Jimmy Allen Preached there for us some and he was impressed with the churches age and stiil in the same building and the way the little ones almost out number the adults. It is a bueatiful places. I sets down a little lane covered by trees and has a amazing out doors with a white old church front that the back has been added on too.
