Dreams of Childhood March 11, 2009

What were your dreams when you were a child?  Were there things you wanted to do when you got old enough to do them?  Think back…be that 10 year old again….what did she hope to do?

• I wanted to ride my horse across the country on a cattle drive.  I wanted to be on my horse all day long for weeks on end.
• I wanted to write a book about my summers growing up at Camp Tahkodah so that every little girl that wanted to be a country girl would be able to experience it.
• I wanted to play tennis regularly and have a coach that would help me improve.
• I wanted to be a speaker to large groups.

I have never articulated these in a list.  I’m actually a little surprised by it…a little excited.  What’s to stop me now that I am big enough?

And you?  Take a minute and think back to that little girl.  What did she want to do?  What were her dreams and thoughts of the future?

Recurring Dreams March 3, 2009

There is a never-fail way to tell that I am overwhelmed…that I need to regroup…that I need to destress. I have this dream…I have had this dream for at least 17 years, maybe longer.

I am at an event and I am maneuvering between the benches of extremely steep bleachers…way up high. I am just about to fall. I am looking for a rail and trying to decide if I should sit down and scoot to the bottom, when I wake up. My heart is pounding and I can’t quite catch my breath.

That’s my “I’m overwhelmed” dream. I have an “I’m about to get in trouble” dream, too.

I am at school and realize that I have gum in my mouth. I spit it out in a trash can and go to my seat. Except there is a small piece stuck in my teeth and I start to play around with it in my mouth and it grows bigger and bigger. I spit it out in a trash can and go back to my seat. Except there is a small piece still in my mouth and it gets bigger and bigger…..get the picture! I can’t get rid of the gum! It’s maddening. I know I am about to get into trouble.
